Sump Pumps

At JM Services, we know how important it is to protect your San Pedro home from the devastating damage caused by a flooded basement. Even just one inch of water can cause thousands of dollars in ruined furniture, carpets and flooring. A home essential is the right sump pump to get that water out of your basement as fast as possible.

How do I test my sump pump to insure proper operation?

To test your sump pump for proper operation, you need to run it thru a normal pumping cycle.  To trigger a pumping cycle, add water to the sump pit until the pump kicks on.

For a submersible pump, designed to operate under water, the pump should kick on when the water level is about 2" above the top of the pump.  This is by far the most common type of basement pump.

For a pedestal pump, an electric upright pump, we recommend calling a professional out to test for proper operation.  These pumps, although less common, have motors that are not designed for exposure to water.

If you have any concerns about how to test your pump for proper operation or you think your pump isn't working properly, please call us and we'll have certified San Pedro plumber come to your home and inspect the pump.

Pumps installed by JM Services are designed to last much longer than store-bought brands; we install sump pump systems designed to last even up to 40 years.

We also highly recommend that our San Pedro customers consider back-up sump pump options as well. Electric pumps can fail due to power outages, resulting in extensive damage, rejected insurance claims, higher premiums, severely limited coverage, higher deductibles and even exclusion from future coverage.
